Keto vs. Paleo diet: Which One is Better?

By Letizia L

Nowadays, you will have a hard time reading a health magazine or entering a gym without hearing about paleo and ketogenic diets.  Many people follow these diets because they want to lose weight or improve their overall health. However, since both diets are so popular, one might wonder how exactly they differ.

Ketogenic diets are characterized by a high-fat diet and a very limited amount of carbohydrates allowed. They can be effective for weight loss and blood sugar control. Compared to a “standard” diet, the distribution of the macronutrients of the keto diets is significantly shifted in favor of fat, with moderate proteins and very few carbohydrates.

The paleo diet emphasizes the consumption of whole foods that were available to humans in the paleolithic era. It also encourages exercise and other wellness practices. So, if you change your food style to imitate that of the Paleolithic hunter-gatherers, you should be able to better support your body’s natural biological function, improving digestion and health. Paleo doesn’t allow the consumption of cereals, legumes, processed sugar, and most milk sources.

Both diets have the potential to have a positive impact on health if planned appropriately. However, long-term research regarding the safety and efficacy of these diet plans is lacking and some of the restrictions can be difficult to maintain. For most people, the paleo diet is a better choice because it allows for more flexibility on food choices compared to Keto diets, which makes long-term maintenance easier.

At the end of the day, the diet that works best for you is the best choice!
